bone broth fast?!

So in my true dabbling nature, I’ve been dabbling some with the Ketogenic Diet. I first heard about Keto last year when I started teaching. I had a student struggling with a seizure disorder that had great success using this diet. Flash forward a year and a half and I’m searching Pinterest for meal plans. I live a very active lifestyle and am really not looking to lose a significant amount of weight but I’m getting married soon and just wanted to look really good. Plus when I don’t eat junk I just feel so much better! Anyway, so I started reading about Keto on Pinterest, because that is where I do like all my research.

Let me start by saying I am not a Keto pro. In reality, I am just starting the Keto journey and I google everything. I started with this post to really get me going and have just found recipes and such by searching Pinterest. That being said, I am fascinated by it and so far am loving the results. I’ve been somewhat following a Keto diet for two weeks now and have finally decided to kick it into full gear but starting out with a bone broth fast.

I’m a stress eater, a bored eater, and basically just an eater. The idea of a fast scares the crap out of me so I’m going to start with a modified version to “train” myself before doing a legit bone broth fast. You should totally do your research before trying this and consult a doctor if you are unsure. I am a healthy, active, twenty-five year old and feel completely safe in attempting this.

I did my research first (thanks Pinterest), and here is one of the best articles I found about the benefits of a bone broth fast. Most things I read suggested doing this for three days, and the thought of that terrifies me. Instead, I’m going to start with a single day and go from there. I’m also going to “supplement” my fast with come celery and carrot sticks and a little bit of NuWave chicken. I’m afraid if I don’t have a little something to munch on I’m going to throw in the towel.

I’ve made my bone broth in my handy dandy Instant Pot (recipe link at the bottom) and am ready to start my fast. Only, I’m not really starting it until Tuesday. Mondays are crazy for me and I play volleyball on Monday night so I’ve decided to do my fast on Tuesday. I don’t want to start off setting myself up for failure.

Here is my plan for my one day mini bone broth fast (wow that is a mouth full…)

Breakfast: 1 cup of broth

Morning Snack: 1/2 cup of broth and a few celery/carrot sticks

Lunch: 1 cup of broth and 1/2 chicken breast

Afternoon Snack: 1/2 cup broth and a few celery/carrot sticks

Dinner: 1 cup of broth and 1/2 chicken breast (maybe a few celery/carrot sticks if I feel hungry)

**by cup I mean a standard coffee cup because I’m not measuring this out exactly. **

This may not work but I’m willing to give it a try. You can have as much broth as you want so if I start feeling hungry I’ll probably drink a 1/2 cup of the broth.  I’m also known to have bad muscle cramps so I’m going to keep a banana on hand just incase. I’ll also attempt to drink a gallon of water (probably with mio in it because I suck)

I’m super excited to give this a shot! After I try it, I’ll edit with a link to the results post.
